With a start that was delayed by an hour by Singaorean rain, the Mexican leapt into the lead from second on the grid, then gave a defensive masterclass on a drying track to deep Charles Leclerc behind. Perez's win was in jeopardy when he was ruled to have fallen too far behind the safety car, but a five-second penalt was not enough to deny him.
